The entire Aragonese territory is today on alert due to the high risk of forest fires, according to the General Directorate of Forest Management of the Government of Aragon through its daily preparation of the Forest Fire Danger Alert Level (NAPIF).
According to the NAPIF, there is a probability of locally strong showers and storms, mainly in the east of the Community, so the Government of Aragon has asked for caution and extreme precautions. Light wind of variable direction is expected, tending in the afternoon to moderate southwest in the Iberian System and west in the Ebro Depression; in the rest of Aragon, the wind from the southeast and light south will predominate, with occasional increases in intensity.
In addition, rainfall cannot be ruled out in the mountain systems, mainly in the northern and eastern thirds of Aragon.
WHAT IS PROHIBITED IN RED ALERT AREAS
The red alert implies the prohibition of lighting fires in open spaces and temporarily suspends authorizations for the use of fire, burning, and cultural and recreational uses. Nor may fires be lit in recreational areas, rest areas of the road network or camping areas, including those that are enabled for this purpose. It is also forbidden to introduce or use pyrotechnic material in forest environments and to throw or abandon burning objects.
Authorisations for sports events and public events in forest environments are also suspended, except when the resolution that allows them to be held expressly contemplates the specific conditions for carrying them out with this level of alert.
In the mountains and in areas located less than 400 meters it is also prohibited to use equipment and machinery that can produce deflagrations, sparks or electric shocks. The regulations provide, however, for several exceptions for certain activities.
Among them is the use of smokers in beekeeping outside the range between 12:00 and 18:00, under the conditions established by the regulations. Cereal harvesting and packing work can also be carried out, although if they are less than 400 metres from a continuous area of wooded and shrubby forest of more than 100 hectares, they must be done outside the period between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
In these cases, precautionary measures must be taken and ensure the quick access of at least one piece of equipment with water impulsion and a minimum capacity of 1,000 litres, or a tractor equipped with a harrow-type tillage implement or similar that allows action to be taken in the event of a possible fire.
The use of agricultural machinery for the harvesting or harvesting of green fodder crops, the rest of the usual agricultural work of crop maintenance and urgent actions aimed at the restoration of basic services are also allowed, always under the conditions established by the regulations.
