[EN] Zaragoza observes a minute of silence for the firefighter who died in the Calatorao fire

Silence has taken over the doors of the Diputación de Zaragoza this Wednesday in honor of Juan Luis Alonso Lete, a firefighter of the DPZ who died this Tuesday in the fire of a mechanical workshop in Calatorao. At 11.00 am, members of the Provincial Council of Zaragoza, of the Zaragoza City Council and the Government of Aragón have joined a joint minute of silence in which they wanted to express their solidarity with the families and with the supramunicipal institution.

The event was attended by a multitude of political figures, such as the President of the Government, Jorge Azcón, the spokesperson for the PSOE Aragón Pilar Alegría, or the president and vice-president of the Provincial Council of Zaragoza, Juan Antonio Sánchez Quero and Teresa Ladrero. The acting mayor of the Zaragoza City Council, Alfonso Mendoza, also attended. Likewise, the Consistory has shown its intention to join the Institutional Declaration issued by the DPZ, in which they have shown their «regret and dismay» for the tragic accident that took place during the work of extinguishing a fire registered in a workshop in the town of Calatorao.

The firefighter of the Provincial Council of Zaragoza Juan Luis Alonso Lete died this Tuesday afternoon during the fire of a mechanical workshop in Calatorao. The officer, stationed in the park of La Almunia de Doña Godina, lost his life when a wall collapsed while trying to rescue, along with other colleagues, a trapped person. The fire also caused the death of the workshop worker.

Alonso Lete had been in the Provincial Fire Fighting Service of the DPZ for 23 years, lived in Zaragoza, was married and had a daughter. The Provincial Council has decreed three days of official mourning and has offered the family to install the funeral chapel in the park of La Almunia or in the plenary hall of the institution. The DPZ has highlighted their professionalism, commitment and vocation for service, as well as the daily work of the provincial firefighters.
