[EN] Beware of this Social Security SMS: seek to steal your ID and card

The Civil Guard and the National Institute of Cybersecurity (INCIBE) have warned of a new SMS scam that impersonates the General Treasury of the Social Security. The message warns of a supposed «pending update» and includes a link that leads to a fake website. The objective is to obtain personal and bank details from the victim.

The deception is simple: the page imitates the Social Security, asks for the ID card and communicates that there is an alleged economic benefit pending collection. Then it asks for the credit card details with the excuse of making the deposit. INCIBE has rated the campaign as highly important and recalls that Social Security does not ask you to update personal data or pay debts through links sent by SMS.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU RECEIVE THIS MESSAGE

If you receive this SMS, do not click on the link, block the sender and delete the message. If you have already entered the website but have not provided information, close the page and do not continue. If you have any questions, go directly to IMPORTASS or to the Social Security Electronic Office by typing the address yourself or accessing it from its official channels.

If you have entered your ID card or card details, contact your bank as soon as possible to block possible movements and the card, save screenshots and all evidence of fraud and file a complaint with the State Security Forces and Corps. INCIBE also recommends monitoring over the next few months whether your personal data is published or is being used without permission.
