Depedro will close this Saturday’s edition of this year’s Veruela Verano festival organized by the Provincial Council of Zaragoza. The concert, for which tickets are already sold out, will take place in an enclave as special as the church of the monastery of Veruela. It will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Depedro is the musical project of Jairo Zavala, started in 2008 with the album «Depedro» recorded with the American band Calexico in Tucson Arizona, a collaboration that has been mutual during many of the albums of both artists, forming for more than 10 years part of the American band as guitarist and co-author of some songs.
From that moment until today, the cross-border project Depedro has poured musical, aesthetic and cultural influences from Latin America, Africa, the Mediterranean or the United States into a musical career that reaches eight LPs and several EPS, as well as the documentaries «Casamance» in Senegal and «Fanantenana» in Madagascar.
This year’s edition of the festival has continued with the line of programming with which it became known 30 years ago. That is, to leave the most commercial line of the music circuits, looking for quality, diversity and artistic originality. Back to the roots of the festival. A format that seeks comfort and enjoyment of the wonderful space of the monastery church, betting on a musical experience in Moncayo and Aragon.
Pancho Varona was in charge of opening this year’s edition of the festival, which continued with the concerts of Las Migas and Queralt Lahoz, turning this jewel of Cistercian Romanesque into the setting for a cycle of intimate and high-quality concerts, where music will dialogue with history and nature in perfect harmony.
