[EN] This is what the Hispanidad Civic Center needs to open: the works will finish in November

After years of demands, the Centro Cívico Hispanidad begins to leave behind the plans and the works to become a reality. The works are already facing their final stretch and the Zaragoza City Council plans to complete the construction phase in November, with a view to its opening between the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027.

The new facility, with an investment of 5.8 million euros, will be the 25th civic center in the city and will have almost 3,200 square meters. In its facilities there will be a library, study room, cafeteria, classrooms for activities and a Coexistence Center for the Elderly, as well as a multipurpose room with capacity for about 900 people standing.

For the Minister of Citizen Participation, Alfonso Mendoza, the building finally brings «reality» to a historic claim that began to take shape in 2019. «We are already in the final part of what is the construction phase and only what is the equipment will remain later,» he said during his visit to the works.

The next step will be to dress the building: place the furniture, complete the last finishes and prepare the spaces for use. Mendoza assures that a large part of the furniture has already been awarded and that the intention is to inaugurate it before the end of 2026, although he acknowledges that the deadlines are still indicative.

Meanwhile, the neighbors are beginning to imagine what it will mean to have this new space in the neighborhood. «Now the works are a nuisance, but it will be worth it,» acknowledged a resident of the area. «Anything that can be improvements for the residents here is great,» added another who, in the same way, blamed what so many months of work entails in terms of dust and noise nuisance.

The center was born with a target population of more than 25,000 people from the surroundings of Universidad, Delicias and Valdefierro, although its activity will be open to all of Zaragoza. And the transformation will not end with this first opening: a second phase includes a Children’s Leisure Center and new outdoor spaces for sports and cultural activities.
