The exhibition «Alabaster Skies» begins this Sunday, August 23 in Mirambel its tour of the province of Teruel that will culminate in December in Alcañiz, in which a series of 37 works that generate an emotional dialogue between geographical identity and nostalgia are shown.
Inspired by the tradition of the Italian veduta and using alabaster fused with oil or watercolour, the proposal documents the rural landscape of Lower Aragon to face the threat of oblivion and abandonment.
The interest of this project lies in its ability to transform an inert material of the territory such as alabaster into a vehicle of collective memory. They are not just a series of paintings, but it is an act of resistance against the oblivion of the rural world, uniting pictorial tradition with social actuality towards rural visibility.
By using Lower Aragonese alabaster, the work arises directly from the land itself that is also represented, and a physical and emotional bond is created with the viewer. This is one of the initiatives selected in the 2026 Call for Proposals for Scientific and Cultural Dissemination Activities, which comes from the artist Óscar Blanch.
Of the 37 works, each one refers to a town in the regions of Bajo Martín (9), Andorra-Sierra de Arcos (9), Maestrazgo (15), Bajo Aragón (2) and Matarraña (2). The project will continue in the future until it covers the municipalities that are missing in the last two regions. The itinerant collection will rotate through the municipalities of Teruel and will invite local inhabitants to rediscover and value their heritage.
