The Real Zaragoza continues to work on the last details that will finish shaping Ibai Gómez’s squad. In this way, the club has announced this Saturday a foreseeable departure: that of Hugo Carrillo. The centre-back is on loan with an option to buy to Mérida and will play in the Primera RFEF, although it will be in group 1 and will not coincide with the Aragonese entity in the third category of national football.

As Real Zaragoza’s sporting director, Lalo Arantegui, announced this past Thursday, the club’s sporting management was working on finding a way out for a player who has not convinced Ibai Gómez and his coaching staff this preseason. Thus, Carrillo, who had stopped training with the group this week, embarks on a new adventure at a club in Merida with which he will make his debut in the First RFEF.

The Andalusian centre-back arrived in Zaragoza in the winter market of the 2024-25 campaign and, after excelling at Deportivo Aragón in the second half of that season, last season he played on loan at Real Unión de Irún with whom he achieved promotion to the First Federation after playing a total of 27 games. Thus, Carrillo goes out on loan again to add minutes and experience in Extremadura.

«From Real Zaragoza we wish you the best in this new stage, Hugo,» the Aragonese entity conveyed in the statement of the departure of a player who has not yet made his debut with the first team and who joins the departures of Adrián Liso, Samed Bazdar and Francho Serrano in this summer market.

SPACE FOR A CENTRE-BACK

Carrillo’s departure further shows the urgency of signing a centre-back to join the squad made up of Diego González, Tachi and Hugo Barrachina. As Lalo Arantegui has already confirmed, in addition to a right-back to replace Francho Serrano, a centre-back will surely arrive in the Zaragoza ranks with Rubén Iranzo as the main option who is waiting for Valencia to authorise his departure from the ché team.
