A new season begins in Casademont Zaragoza and the hopes of continuing to break the mold by the women’s team are still intact. This August 24, Carlos Cantero’s teamreturns to the Aragonese capital, although this time it will be in dribs and drabs, and in a somewhat strange and almost decaffeinated way.
This is because almost half of the squad will not be present for different reasons on the first day of the return to work and only seven players will be under Cantero’s orders. New signings such as Aisha Sheppard, Yarden Garzon, Kristine Vitola and Carla Brito; along with the already known Helena Oma, Merritt Hempe and Laia Flores.

The rest of the squad will not be able to be on this first day. In the case of Nerea Hermosa, Mariona Ortiz and Veronika Vorackova it is because they are concentrated with their respective national teams. The captain and the Czech are fixed in their national teams so until well into September it seems difficult for them to return to Zaragoza, while the center from Vitoria is fighting for a place on Miguel Méndez’s list, but it may be that when Spain’s preparation ends (August 30) she will already be available for Cantero.
Nadia Fingall and Ornella Bankolé are in the WNBA and until they finish their participation with their teams she will not be back in the Aragonese capital. The French will return at the end of September, while the domestic one will most likely not be able to be in Zaragoza until October. A special case is that of Astou Ndour, the center is already well known that she will not come to Casademont Zaragoza until January, and that is why the arrival of Kristine Vitola took place.
THE PRESEASON
Carlos Cantero’s team will return to their routine this Monday and after the ‘stage’ in Benasque from August 31 to September 3 they will start with the friendlies. The preseason will continue with adouble confrontation against the Greek Athinaikos WBC who, precisely, share a group with the red club in the first phase of the Euroleague< href="https://www.aragondigital.es/tags/euroliga-femenina/" target="_blank"> Euroleague. The first will be played on September 18, at 8:30 p.m., in Ejea de los Caballeros. The last rehearsal before the official premiere will come on September 23, when Casademont visits Torres de Berrellén to face Azul Marino New Travel at 9:00 p.m. It will be the last test before heading to Torrejón de Ardoz, where the rojillas will defend the Super Cup title.
