Opening a business in a small town in Huesca that barely had 40 inhabitants does not seem like the best idea. However, Toño Rodríguez saw this place as the ideal enclave to show that from the rural world culinary excellence can also be achieved. La Era de los Nogales was born offering a catering service for schools, but over time it ended up being transformed into a unique gastronomic space that earned it a Michelin Star.
This story captivated director Manuel García Gil and he decided to take it to the screens in the form of a documentary. After its world premiere at the 29th edition of the Malaga Film Festival, the film «The Shadow of the Walnut Tree» begins its tour of cinemas throughout the country on Wednesday, August 26 in order to put gastronomy, roots and the ability to overcome in the foreground.
The film delves into the philosophy and day-to-day life of La Era de los Nogales, the restaurant located in Sardas, a small town in the mountain in Huesca. Through its protagonists, the documentary portrays much more than a gastronomic project: it shows a way of understanding cuisine linked to the territory, roots and the commitment to keeping the rural environment alive.
A STORY OF RESILIENCE
La Sombra del Nogal also narrates a journey of resilience. What began as a catering for schools had to be reinvented as a result of the pandemic, giving rise to a new life project that would end up becoming a Michelin Star. An extraordinary transformation that demonstrates how adversity can become an opportunity to change course without renouncing one’s values.
With this arrival in cinemas, Manuel García Gil’s documentary brings the public closer to the story of a restaurant that has managed to place a small town in the mountains of Huesca on the gastronomic map.
