The directors of the Municipal School of Jotas de Tarazona, Chus Ortega and Alfredo Val, have been awarded the City of Tarazona 2026 recognition for their career and their commitment to the dissemination and conservation of the Aragonese jota. The recognition will be presented on October 5 during the feast of San Atilano.
The Councilor for Culture, Ana Calvo, stressed that the award recognizes this year two people who have dedicated years of effort and passion to the jota, especially through their work at the school. «Thank you for your dedication, patience and enthusiasm. You have been able to transmit not only the steps, movements and songs of our jota, but also the love for a tradition that is part of our identity«, Calvo highlighted.
The mayor has also valued the contribution of Ortega y Val in the conservation and transmission of this cultural heritage. «Your work has contributed to keeping alive a fundamental part of our local and regional culture, bringing it closer to new generations and ensuring that this valuable heritage continues to be known, respected and enjoyed,» added Calvo.
For his part, the mayor of Tarazona, Tono Jaray, has celebrated the unanimous support of the City Council of Tarazona to the proposal and has congratulated the two winners for their career and for the work carried out over the years. «I am happy that we all agree that they are the winners, for taking the name of Tarazona to all places and for their great work in the Municipal School of Jotas,» said the mayor, who has conveyed his congratulations to Ortega y Val.
