[EN] Junts threatens to withdraw its support for the government if Catalonia enters the distribution of migrant minors

«Catalonia will be left out of the distribution or the Spanish government will not have a single vote from us». With this warning, the spokeswoman for Junts in Congress, Miriam Nogueras, has rejected Catalonia’s participation in a new distribution of migrant minors arriving in Ceuta and has increased the pressure on Pedro Sánchez’s government.

Junts maintains that Catalonia has been under high pressure on its reception system for years and that it cannot take on more children without additional resources. Nogueras recalled that a year ago his party managed to leave the community out of the distribution of minors from the Canary Islands and defends that the criteria approved then are still in force. «Solidarity without resources is not solidarity. It is irresponsible,» he said.

The pro-independence leader has also charged against the government’s migration management, which she accuses of being «incapable of controlling its borders» and of trying to transfer the consequences to the autonomous communities. In his opinion, the situation in Ceuta shows «the failure of a State» to anticipate and manage migratory flows with order and security.

Nogueras has also linked the current crisis to the extraordinary regularisation promoted by the Executive, a measure that Junts criticises for having been adopted, as it maintains, unilaterally. The spokeswoman also reproaches other communities for having taken in fewer minors than Catalonia in recent years and considers it unfair to increase the pressure on a network that she describes as «absolutely saturated».

The Junts spokeswoman insists that her position «is not against minors», but against the management of governments. According to him, transferring them to a reception system that he considers collapsed would mean offering them insufficient care and increasing the pressure on Catalan public services. The warning comes coinciding with the convening of the National Security Council by Pedro Sánchez to address the crisis in Ceuta.
