[EN] Chaos in the middle of Buñol’s Tomatina: four people treated by pepper spray

The Tomatina de Buñol, one of the best-known Spanish festivals in the world, has experienced an incident this Wednesday during its multitudinous celebration. Four people have had to be treated after being affected by pepper spray, although none have suffered serious injuries.

As reported by À Punt, the Valencian regional channel, an unidentified person would have thrown a pepper spray while one of the trucks in charge of distributing the 150 tons of tomatoes used during the party passed by. One of the teams of the regional television itself that participated in the broadcast of the Tomatina witnessed the events.

The health personnel deployed on the occasion of the event attended to the four affected in the same place. All of them had eye discomfort and were discharged ‘in situ’ after it was only necessary to wash their eyes.

Every year, La Tomatina turns the streets of Buñol, in the province of Valencia, into a real tomato battle that attracts thousands of participants from different parts of Spain and abroad. The celebration has established itself as one of the popular Spanish festivals with the greatest international projection.
