[EN] Marlaska highlights the «solidity of cooperation» with Morocco and criticises the discourse of the PP and Vox

The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, criticised on Friday the discourse «of the right and the far right» that he considers only serves to «feed the social division» in Ceuta after the massive entry of more than 70,000 immigrants irregularly at the end of July and, at the same time. He also praised the «solidity of cooperation with Morocco» to «get the city back to the situation of full normality».

This was explained by Marlaska in an extraordinary session of the Interior Committee in the Congress of Deputies, where he appeared to explain the government’s management in relation to the events that have occurred in the autonomous city since July 30 and July 31.

The Minister of the Interior has charged in his initial speech against PP and Vox assuring that, «despite partisan attempts, attempts to misinform and incite hatred in the streets», the Government has responded in Ceuta.

«Irregular entry into Ceuta does not generate automatic expectations of permanence in our country,» said the Minister of the Interior and clarified that «legal procedures continue to be applied to manage the return of those who do not meet the conditions to remain in our country».

In the same way, he stressed that the Executive is «guaranteeing access to international protection for those people who request it and prove the requirements provided for in our legal system, European regulations and also our own international commitments».

Marlaska placed special emphasis on «the strength of cooperation» with the Moroccan government: «At the political level, I am in permanent contact with my Moroccan counterpart». Thus, he stressed that «at the operational level, the police authorities of both countries work together in the fight against irregular migration and human trafficking». In fact, he added that the Moroccan authorities have intercepted more than 2,700 irregular maritime departures to the Spanish coasts so far this year.
