The retirement is one of the great concerns of Aragonese people who are nearing the end of their working lives. With the increase in life expectancy and economic uncertainty, more and more workers are looking for information on what the maximum retirement pension is, how much they will be able to receive when they retire and what the requirements are to access the highest pension.
In 2026, Social Security has revalued benefits by 2.7%, which has raised the maximum retirement pension by Aragón to more than 3,359.60 euros per month. But who can access this amount and how much do you have to contribute to receive the maximum pension? Below we answer the main questions about this question.
WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM RETIREMENT PENSION IN ARAGON
In Aragon, as in the rest of Spain, the maximum pension in 2026 is 3,359.60 euros per month, which is equivalent to 47,034.40 euros per year, distributed in 14 payments, two of them extra. This amount represents the ceiling established by law: even if a worker’s regulatory base were higher, they could never receive more than that amount.
The increase for this year has meant an increase of 92 euros per month compared to 2025 and 1,288 euros more per year, reaffirming an upward trend compared to the figures for 2024 and 2023.
This limit seeks to guarantee the sustainability of the public pension system, balancing the contributory effort of workers with the long-term financial viability of Social Security.
HOW MUCH DO YOU HAVE TO CONTRIBUTE TO RECEIVE THE MAXIMUM PENSION
To access the highest pension, it is not enough to reach retirement age, but it is also essential to meet two requirements: years of contributions and a high regulatory base. In 2026, the ordinary retirement age is 66 years and 10 months if you have contributed less than 38 years and 3 months, or 65 years if you exceed that period.
In 2026, the system for calculating the regulatory base will change. Until now, the contributions of the last 25 years were taken into account, but from this year the Social Security will compare this method with another that allows the two worst contribution bases to be excluded within the last 25 years and two months, always applying the calculation that is most favourable to the worker.
In order to receive the maximum pension, the worker must have contributed for a large part of their working career for very high contribution bases. In 2026, the maximum contribution base stands at 5,101.20 euros per month. Even so, having contributed for the maximum base does not in itself guarantee access to the maximum pension, as the years of contributions and the calculation of the regulatory base also have an influence.
NON-CONTRIBUTORY PENSIONS: WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM?
Not everyone in Aragon can access a contributory pension, as it is necessary to have contributed for at least 15 years throughout their working life, of which at least two must be within the 15 years prior to retirement. For those who do not meet this requirement, there is the non-contributory retirement and disability pension, intended for people with insufficient income and who have not contributed the time required by law. In 2026, the full amount of these non-contributory pensions amounts to 628.80 euros per month in 14 payments, which is equivalent to 8,803.20 euros per year.
These benefits guarantee minimum protection and are financed from the General State Budget, so they do not depend directly on social contributions. This strengthens social cohesion and prevents the elderly without resources from being left unprotected.
