Zaragoza undertakes from this Monday, July 20, an intensive asphalting campaign, within the ordinary operations that the City Council executes throughout the year independently of road maintenance works and extraordinary operations such as the summer one. In this case, «there will be 19 avenues and streets, spread over 9 urban districts, in which 800,000 euros will be invested to renovate the 36,947 m² pavement,» explained the Minister of Urban Planning, Infrastructure, Energy and Housing, Víctor Serrano.
For three weeks, from July 20 to August 7, the machines will be milling and asphalting roads in Torrero, San José, La Almozara, Actur Rey Fernando, El Rabal, Delicias, Santa Isabel, Universidad and Casablanca. Among the largest actions, in terms of renovated square meters, are América Avenue with 5,344 m² and Fourth Avenue Avenue with 4,849 m², both in Torrero, Santa Isabel Avenue with 4,583 m², Puerta Sancho Avenue in La Almozara with 3,766 m², and María Zambrano Avenue in Actur Rey Fernando with 2,496 m².
The list of roads is completed with actions in the calle Zafiro and the Camino de la Protectora (Torrero); San José Avenue and Melilla Street (San José); Gómez de Avellaneda Avenue and the Camino de la Peseta (Actur Rey Fernando); Joaquín Numancia, María Blasco, Salvo Puerto streets and Cataluña avenue (El Rabal); Avenida de Madrid and Calle Rioja (Delicias); Cejador Frauca Street (University); and Paseo Reyes de Aragón (Casablanca).
THE ASPHALT ROADMAP
The first week, from July 20 to 24, the machines will work on Fourth Avenue, Zafiro Street, San José Avenue, Camino de la Peseta, María Zambrano Avenue and Puerta Sancho Avenue. In fact, it is expected that after the campaign that begins this Monday, everything can be prepared for the extraordinary summer operation.
«These ordinary shock plans are in addition to the great Operation Summer Asphalt that this year will invest 1.2 million euros to asphalt more than 26,000 square meters in 36 streets distributed equally in 14 districts of the city, guaranteeing that the improvements reach all corners of Zaragoza,» recalled Víctor Serrano.
The councillor recalled that the renovation of the road surface necessarily requires partial cuts of the roads or their lanes that, at any other time of the year, would generate greater delays and affect urban mobility. In addition, Serrano has added a decisive technical factor to this planning: the high temperatures and the absence of rainfall, typical of the Zaragoza summer, «facilitate the work with asphalt mixtures, guaranteeing a better seal, faster drying and, ultimately, greater durability and quality of the resulting pavement».
THE REPAIRS ON THE ASPHALT
One of the fundamental pillars of this strategy, according to Serrano, is the guarantee of road safety provided by these works. «The proactive repair of potholes, fissures and subsidence prevents accidents, improves the grip of vehicles and facilitates much safer circulation for buses, cars, motorcycles and personal mobility vehicles,» he recalled
Likewise, the Minister stressed that the application of the new asphalt materials contributes significantly to the reduction of noise pollution caused by the rolling of tires, improving sound comfort in the streets and rest in homes. Finally, Serrano wanted to thank in advance the patience and understanding of the neighbors and merchants in the face of the inevitable inconvenience that the machines bring.
«The effort and the small discomfort, which lasts two or three days in each street, between milling and asphalting, translate into greater tranquility, safety and streets in optimal conditions,» Serrano concluded, reiterating the commitment of the Zaragoza City Council to maintain a sustained and expansive investment throughout the mandate to consolidate an urban scene of the highest quality.
