The forest firefighters of Aragón start an indefinite strike this Tuesday to demand improvements in the regional operation of prevention and extinction of fires. The call of the unions CGT, Osta, UGT and CCOO comes in the middle of the fire campaign and with the professionals mobilized in the area of Las Peñas de Riglos.
The strike has minimum services of 100% established by the Government of Aragon, so attention to fires and emergencies will be maintained normally. In this context, the mobilizations will only take place during the workers’ weekly rest days, as explained by the Strike Committee.
Among the main demands are the increase in the workforce between 150 and 200 troops, the guarantee of legal breaks, improvements in material means and provisioning and a specific remuneration recognition for the danger, arduous and physical effort associated with this activity. In this sense, they point out that the operation for the prevention and extinction of forest fires in the Community (Infoar) is «structurally undersized«.
The unions maintain that the Aragonese forestry operation needs more resources to deal with large fires and demand that the Government of Aragon negotiate to reach an agreement and strengthen the device.
