The storms have unloaded with intensity this Sunday in different parts of the Lower Aragón and the Ribera del Ebro, with special incidence in Caspe and Alcañiz, where rain, hail and strong gusts wind have marked a good part of the afternoon. The episodes have occurred on a day with active weather warnings and with the Procifemar alert phase in force in Aragon.
In Caspe, the storm arrived during the afternoon accompanied by hail and heavy rainfall, after a day marked until then by heat. In the area, around 10 liters per square meter have been collected in the first stormy episodes.
Later, the storm has also reached Alcañiz, where heavy rain, hail and very intense gusts of wind have been recorded. Some estimates placed the accumulated rainfall at around 30 to 40 liters per square meter during the most severe episode.
SPECIAL CIVIL PROTECTION PLAN
The Government of Aragon maintains the alert phase of the Special Civil Protection Plan for Adverse Weather Phenomena (Procifemar) activated. In the event of new storms, it recommends avoiding unnecessary travel, taking extreme caution at the wheel and staying away from trees, structures susceptible to detachment, ravines, riverbeds and areas at risk of flooding.
The storms occur while weather warnings remain active in several areas of Aragon, including the orange warning in the Ribera del Ebro and the yellow in Bajo Aragón. The recommendation is to follow the evolution of the warnings and attend to the indications of the emergency services at all times.
