A zombie apocalypse, but far from clichés, set in Zaragoza. This is the premise of the book of short stories «The apocalypse as you have never seen it before» by Perfecto Domínguez, a writer from Bilbao who has been living in Zaragoza for 11 years, who has turned the Aragonese capital into the setting for a peculiar apocalyptic story.
The work brings together more than thirty short stories that share a universe. «I use the living dead to make a social critique of the system, through satire, black humor and situations of absurd bureaucracy,» said the author of the work.
AN APOCALYPSE IN ZARAGOZA
There are 80 pages of agile reading in which the zombies, in the book called «persistent», do not chase humans: they are intelligent and interact with society. Bureaucracy thus becomes one of the driving forces behind the humor of the play, which also addresses issues such as work, evictions or euthanasia.
The idea arose in a queue at the Administration, when the author observed the people around him and thought they resembled the living dead. As a result of that experience he wrote «Ventanilla 3B», the first story of the thirty that make up the book. «It follows some zombies who go to a window to decide what to do with them,» explains the author.
Zaragoza is also much more than the setting of history. «Streets and areas of the city appear that people can recognize. On the cover you can see the cachirulo, that Aragonese element is also present,» explained the author. The result is an apocalypse with a local stamp that is already available on the website of the publishing house Diversidad Literaria.
