The reality for <a href=»https://www.aragondigital.es/real-zaragoza/»>Real Zaragoza and the S.D. Huesca has changed radically with its fall from professional football and one of the most relevant changes is regarding refereeing, since VAR does not exist in the First RFEF due to the fact that its high maintenance cost is unattainable for most of the teams that compete in the category. For the C.D. Teruel this tool is not unknown and they have already experienced it in their own flesh this past season.
For this reason, the RFEF decided last season to implement a less expensive Video Assistant Referee system known as Football Video Support (FVS) which does not require the participation of a video refereeing team, i.e. the VOR room. This technology has already been used in continental competitions of youth teams to check its operation.
This will be the second season that the FVS is in use within the third category of Spanish football and for this year there are two important novelties compared to last year in terms of its use.
THE CASES IN WHICH THE FVS INTERVENED
The FVS can intervene in up to five cases: goal/no goal, penalty/no penalty, direct red card, confusion of identity and the addition this season is the review of second yellow cards. In addition, all goals will be reviewed by the fourth official by default, another of the novelties for this season.
Its operation is very simple, the coach must request the review of one of the aforementioned plays by giving a card to the fourth official. It will be the fourth referee himself who is in charge of reviewing the action in question, although in case of doubt in the check of the action the main referee can come to review it.
With this system, the competition prevents matches from suffering excessive delays and if the game is resumed, the play in question cannot be modified. In total, coaches have two review requests per match and in the event that the decision is corrected, the club involved recovers the request. It should be noted that once the request has been made (review card given to the fourth official), it cannot be withdrawn.
