The old saying that children arrive with a loaf of bread under their arm will have a new version in Zaragoza. From 2027, families will be able to apply for a baby cheque of 300 euros for the birth or adoption of a child, a municipal aid that will be used in pharmacies for the purchase of children’s products. The measure was one of the announcements made this Tuesday by the mayor, Natalia Chueca, during the first day of the Debate on the state of the City.
The amount will amount to 400 euros when the child born or adopted has a disability. The Zaragoza City Council calculates that the initiative will have a budget of close to one million euros, taking as a reference the more than 4,000 births that are registered each year in the Aragonese capital.
To access the grant, it will be necessary to prove more than five years of registration in Zaragoza and residence in Spain, according to the requirements established by the call. The check must be used to purchase products for the care of minors in the city’s pharmacies.
MORE AID FOR WORK-LIFE BALANCE
The new baby check is part of the municipal government’s strategy to strengthen policies to support families. The aim is to help alleviate part of the costs involved in the arrival of a child and to offer financial support in the first months after birth or adoption.
The new benefit will be added to other measures promoted by the Zaragoza City Council in terms of work-life balance. Among them is the opening, scheduled for this autumn, of the Concilia 0-3 Space at the Municipal Nursery School of Parque Venecia.
This new service will begin with 25 seats during weekends, although it is planned to expand the offer if demand requires it. The initiative seeks to facilitate the care of children under three years of age and offer a new resource to Zaragoza families.
