Plaza Park Zaragoza continues to take firm steps in the development of what will be one of the largest retail parks in Spain. The project, through ERV Link, which carries out the commercialization, has closed agreements with Müller, Primaprix, Pepco and Skechers, which will be incorporated into the commercial offer of the future northern area of the complex, where Costco is also located.
These additions reinforce the commercial positioning of the project and are in addition to the advanced negotiations that ERV Link is holding with new food, fashion, sports and home operators. The aim is to start construction of the new building in October with 80% of the commercial area committed.
While the commercialization progresses, Plaza Park Zaragoza faces another of the most relevant milestones of the project: the demolition of the old Plaza Imperial, considered the largest demolition of a private building for civilian use carried out to date in Spain.
A SUSTAINABLE DEMOLITION
The action incorporates an important sustainability component based on the recovery, reuse and recovery of materials from the old building, minimising the generation of waste and favouring the circular economy. The demolition will allow the recovery and reuse of practically all the materials from the old shopping centre. All the concrete of the structure and the slabs will be recycled by means of an impact mill to transform it into 0-80 mm granulometry slabs, which will later be reused in the construction of the new retail park.
In addition, all metals from structures and installations will be sent to smeltersfor reuse, while 70% to 80% of other waste, such as plasterboard, glass and various construction materials, will be recovered by authorised managers.
This process is one of the pillars of the transformation of the old Plaza Imperial into a new commercial park designed under criteria of efficiency and sustainability, minimising the generation of waste and favouring the circular economy throughout the construction process.
THE SOUTHERN ZONE CONTINUES TO GROW
In parallel to the development of the new northern area, Plaza Park continues to strengthen the activity of the southern area, in operation since 2008. One of the main milestones will be the opening of Brico Depôt, whichwill occupy an establishment of about 8,000 square meters and which is executing its private work.
Likewise, Padel Plaza, a sports operator specialising in padel, will expand its facilities with another 2,500 square metres, to reach about 6,500 square metres in total, incorporating new pickleball courts, a discipline in full growth. In this way, the almost 40,000 m2 of GLA in the southern area of the project are now operational.
A PROJECT THAT WILL TRANSFORM THE OLD IMPERIAL SQUARE
Plaza Park Zaragoza represents the complete transformation of the old Plaza Imperial into anew generation shopping park, adapted to new consumer trends and specialized in large shopping centers. An independent commercial complex will be created from the existing one of more than 40,000 m2 of GLA for retail, leisure, catering, services and hotel and 4,000 parking spaces, to which Costco must be added, already operating successfully since last year.
The development contemplates an investment of 56 million euros and will combine national and international operators with a wide range of retail, catering, sports and leisure activities. The project will also contribute to the regeneration of one of Zaragoza’s main commercial hubs and will generate around 350 jobs during construction and more than 1,000 jobs when it comes into operation.
