The total solar eclipse on August 12 continues to promote initiatives to remember the close relationship of Aragón with the astronomy. In this context, the Tarazona City Council will pay tribute on July 18 to the French astronomer Urbain Le Verrier with the inauguration of a monolith at the Mirador La Luesa and a solar observation workshop open to the public.
The event will begin at 12:00 p.m. and will serve to remember Le Verrier’s passage through Tarazona more than 160 years ago, as well as the scientists who observed from this enclave the historic total solar eclipse of 1860, a key episode in the history of astronomy.
HOMAGE TO THE ECLIPSE OF 1860
During the event, the commemorative monolith will be unveiled, erected in memory of the scientists who observed the historic total solar eclipse of 1860 from this place.
This will be followed by a Solar Observation Workshop, in which attendees will be able to safely observe the photosphere of the Sun using specialized telescopes and learn about the operation of the solar schedule. The activity will be free, open to all audiences and will require prior registration. The workshop will be given by Astronomía Moncayo.
