The Director General of Sport of the Government of Aragon, Cristina García, has conveyed this Thursday the congratulations of the Aragonese Executive to Enzo Millán, who has been proclaimed champion of Spain of U-8 chess. The championship was held from July 2 to 6 in Vícar, in Almeria, where a hundred children from all the autonomous communities competed.
Enzo Millán, a member of the Marcos Frechín Chess Club of Zaragoza, added eight points in the nine rounds of the competition, with seven wins, two draws and no defeats. They already won the championship in the U-7 category last year and this new victory gives them a direct pass to the European Championship, which will take place in November in Greece.
Cristina García visited Enzo Millán this afternoon at the headquarters of the chess club, where he plays and trains. The director presented him with a diploma and praised the talent and effort of the young man from Zaragoza, to whom she wished luck for the European competition.
THE MARCOS FRECHÍN CHESS CLUB
The Marcos Frechín Chess Club emerged in the Marcos Frechín School in the Aragonese capital, although in 2022 the club inaugurated its own headquarters at Calle Salvador Allende, number 9. In this place, about 70 children from 6 years of age to adults and more and more adults who sign up to teach, and who already reach 30 students, train.
The members of the club train from Monday to Friday, in the afternoons, with eight coaches who also teach extracurricular classes in other schools and in centers for the elderly, in addition to participating in competitions. This year, in the Aragonese teams of 14 and 16 years old, four members of the club have competed who have taken two bronze medals, in the case of the U16, and have finished fourth in the U-14 competition with the community team.
