The Spanish Consumer Association has warned of a new scam that uses the image of Ibercaja to try to get hold of customers’ online banking access credentials. The fraud comes through an email urging people to renew their electronic signature password in order to obtain personal data and access bank accounts.
As explained by the organization, in recent days it has received warnings from consumers about this new fraudulent campaign. In the message that citizens receive, they are asked «to renew their new personal electronic signature key. Use the old one to destroy it online and receive the new one, with which you can validate all your transactions in Ibercaja Online and in the mobile application».
NEW PHISHING CASE
It is, therefore, a new case of phishing with which cybercriminals seek to obtain the current password of the bank account that users have opened in this entity. From that moment on, they can carry out economic operations to steal the money from the account.
Once again, the Spanish Association of Consumers has asked citizens to use common sense to avoid becoming victims of this type of fraud and to report any new modality related to this issue.
WHAT TO DO IF THE MESSAGE IS RECEIVED
Thus, in the event that we have not made the charge that they indicate, we should not call that phone number or pay attention to any more messages received by email or SMS related to this fraud.
In the event that we have fallen into the trap, the Spanish Association of Consumers has recommended changing online banking passwords and cancelling operational cards to block possible fraudulent charges. In addition, it has advised filing an immediate complaint with the State Security Forces and Corps and notifying the bank as soon as possible.
