The cries for help of a 77-year-old woman after a chain was violently torn from her neck triggered a chase on Tuesday through the streets of the Historic Center of Zaragoza, which ended with the alleged perpetrator detained by a citizen until the arrival of the National Police. The detainee, who acted by the pull method, accumulates more than a dozen police records for crimes of similar characteristics and has already entered prison.
The assault took place at around 1:45 p.m. on July 14, when the woman was walking along Santa Inés Street while running some errands. As reported by the Superior Police Headquarters of Aragón, the suspect approached her by surprise, held her tightly by the arms and began to shake her until he pulled off the chain she was wearing. As a result of the attack, the woman suffered a wound in the chin area, in addition to a strong state of nervousness.
The victim’s cries for help alerted several people who were in the vicinity, to the point that one of the citizens who witnessed the aggression began to chase the perpetrator while he fled the scene. Without losing sight of him at any time, he managed to catch up with him and hold him until the arrival of the police callsign. Likewise, the testimony of another citizen who witnessed the events was essential to reconstruct what happened and confirm the dynamics of the robbery.
Once at the scene, the agents proceeded to arrest the alleged perpetrator, locating the stolen chain, which had been fractured during the violent pull, being able to be recognized without any doubt by the victim and later delivered as a judicial deposit. Hours later, the detainee was brought to justice, entering prison after being heard in a statement.
