Choosing the right place to refuel during your holiday tripscan make all the difference in your pocket. A study by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) reveals that filling up the tank at the cheapest service stations allows you to save up to 26% on gasoline and 18% on diesel compared to the most expensive ones.

The report also identifies the highways where fuel is most expensive. In the case of petrol, the stations with the highest prices are concentrated on the A-1, A-3, A-5 and A-7, while for diesel the A-1, A-3, A-6 and A-62 stand out.

IN SEARCH OF THE CHEAPEST PETROL STATIONS

On the A-1, which connects Madrid with Irún, the average price is among the highest, although the best options are at the ends of the route. This is the case of the Alcampo stations in Oiartzun and Irún (Gipuzkoa) and the Alcampo de Alcobendas station (Madrid), as well as the Gerantisan station in Nanclares de Oca (Álava) for diesel.

On the other hand, the most expensive section is the AP-1 and the one that crosses Navarre. Between the cheapest and most expensive stations, a maximum saving of 15% on petrol and 16% on diesel can be achieved.

On the A-2, between Madrid and La Junquera, the prices of BonArea in Jorba (Barcelona), Alcarrás and Torrefarrera (Lleida) stand out, as well as Family Energy in Garrapinillos (Zaragoza) and BonÀrea in Épila (Zaragoza). On the rest of the route, the best options are between Alcalá de Henares and Guadalajara, while the most expensive section is the old toll road between Zaragoza and Tarragona.

POSSIBLE SAVINGS

«If we compare it with the best offers, the possible savings are high: up to 24% in gasoline and 18% in diesel,» according to the study.

On the A-3, the Gasplay station in La Roda (Albacete) stands out for its prices, as well as those of Apellan in Molina de Segura (Murcia) and Petroprix in Novelda (Alicante) for those who need to refuel diesel. The savings on this route reach up to 22% in gasoline and 15% in diesel.

On the A-4, thebest rates are found at the Ronda Norte petrol station in Seville, the cheapest, and at Ballenoil in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) for diesel. Compared to the most expensive stations, the savings can reach 22% in petrol and 17% in diesel.

On the A-6 and A-52, the cheapest stations are Petroprix in Benavente (Zamora) and Carbugal in Sabón (A Coruña). For diesel, Fuel Xpres in Muxa de Arriba (Lugo), Plenergy in A Coruña and Alcampo de Vigo stand out. Refuelling in them means savings of up to 26% in petrol and 16% in diesel.

Before the start of the A-8, the N-634 offers «interesting» options at the Car Oil and Valcarce stations, in A Coruña. However, the best prices are already close to the border with France, at the petrol stations of Alcampo de Oiartzun and Irún (both in Gipuzkoa) for diesel and at the Petroprix de Elgoibar (also in Gipuzkoa) for petrol. The maximum savings reach 16% in gasoline and 14% in diesel.

On this route, savings of up to 19% can be achieved in petrol and 16% compared to the most expensive petrol stations.
