[EN] The new exhibition inspired by Goya’s engravings: «Caprichos de Mannekind» arrives in Fuendetodos

The mayor of Fuendetodos, Enrique Salueña, hopes that the exhibition will serve as an incentive to visit the painter’s hometown

The most universal painter of Aragon, Francisco de Goya, denounced through his Caprichos the moral degradation of his time in a pioneering way. Juan Moro is inspired by these engravings in his exhibition «Caprichos de Mannekind», 80 photographically based prints that reflect a contemporary vision of the absurd human condition. The prints are on display at the Goya Engraving Museum in Fuendetodos, the painter’s hometown.

The artist plays with the figure of a mannequin as a common thread to address contemporary issues with an exclusively satirical key about the uses and customs of the present. It reflects the concerns of human behaviour, leading the viewer to ask themselves questions that are very topical. In this way, the work recovers Goya’s critical spirit to address current issues such as religion, the consumption of medicines or prejudices.

The exhibition has prints made up of an image and its motto. The artist has commented that the ideas behind the pieces are more evident in some than in others. In the same way as with the universal painter: after two centuries since Goya painted the works, it is still not clear what he wanted to capture. «I move between banality and depth, it’s the most human thing there can be.»

The artist has been grateful to be able to show his exhibition that draws a lot from Goya’s artistic legacy, in the heart of the town where he was born, Fuendetodos. He has valued that it is artistic proposals like that that that keep alive the link between the town and the painter and provide tourist attraction.

The exhibition can be seen in Fuendetodos from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The mayor of Fuendetodos, Enrique Salueña, hopes that the exhibition will attract visitors so that the town has activity for the autumn, and he hopes to receive tourists interested in seeing this exhibition linked to Goya in his hometown.
