The Zaragoza town of Gallur has taken this Saturday the first step to make its future municipal residence for the elderly ‘María Yolanda Salvatierra Pérez’ a reality. The managing director of the Aragonese Institute of Social Services (IASS), Marta Tejero, and the mayor of the municipality, María Pilar Capdevila, have participated in the laying of the first stone of a project whose works are expected to be completed in December 2027 and which will have 64 places when it comes into operation.
The event was held on the site of Tauste Street where the center will be built. Marta Tejero and María Pilar Capdevila have signed the act of laying the first stone together with the president of the Ribera Alta del Ebro region, José Miguel Achón, in an act that has also been attended by members of the municipal corporation and other local and regional authorities. The company in charge of executing the works is the MLN Group.
THE PROJECT WILL HAVE 64 PLACES
Tejero has valued that this infrastructure «represents much more than a building, since it represents a commitment to people, to the well-being of our elderly and to the future of this municipality». He has described it as «an important advance for Gallur and its region, allowing many people to remain close to their environment, their families and their roots receiving quality care».
The managing director of the IASS has stressed the Government’s commitment to Aragón «with the rural environment and with the care of our elderly». In this line, he has advanced the creation of more places in nursing homes through the «increase in the budget allocated to these services with the aim of guaranteeing dignified, accessible and quality care to those who have raised our nation with their work and effort».
Tejero thanked the Gallur City Council for the effort made to carry out this project: «When the administrations work together and with a common goal, the results translate into better services and more opportunities for citizens». «Today we lay a first stone, but we also sow hope, security and future. This residence will be a benchmark and a space of care, coexistence and dignity for many people,» he summarized.
TRIBUTE TO THE FORMER MAYOR MARÍA YOLANDA SALVATIERRA PÉREZ
For her part, the mayor María Pilar Capdevila stressed that «today we take a firm step towards the future of our town with the laying of the first stone» of the aforementioned residence. He celebrated that «this symbolic act marks the beginning of a project of great social relevance, aimed at improving the quality of life of our neighbors, especially the elderly.» «It represents the commitment of the Gallur City Council to the well-being, dignified attention and care of those who have contributed to the development of our municipality throughout their lives,» he detailed.
The mayor recalled that the name of the center pays tribute to María Yolanda Salvatierra Pérez, who has been mayor of Gallur between 2015 and 2022, and explained that it is «a recognition of her dedication, public commitment and contribution to the development of our municipality». «The fact that this residence bears his name is the best way to keep alive the memory of a person who dedicated an important part of his life to the service of Gallur and all his neighbors,» he recalled.
