The Teatro Principal lowers the curtain on the season: the stages of its stage will not receive artists until September. There have been months in which the audience has made themselves comfortable in their seats to be dazzled by the theatrical proposals of the program. All of them have found a place in the historic theatre, which continues to reinforce its image as a meeting point for culture.

The Zaragoza coliseum already has twelve shows scheduled for the return from the summer break. In a similar way to this year’s program, the Teatro Principal offers a choral proposal with shows for all audiences and tastes. Tickets for all the shows can now be purchased through the Teatro Principal website.

FRIENDS: THE MUSICAL PARODY

The adventures, but especially the misadventures, of television’s most iconic group of friends are at the heart of the show «Friends. The Musical Parody». A musical parody that condenses the ten seasons into a theater session. A journey through the series that has ten costume changes, which reflect the evolution of fashion throughout the 90s.

An ideal experience for those fans of the series who want to see the most memorable moments from a funnier, acidic and exaggerated point of view. An approach that makes the key scenes of the story of this group of friends arrive on the stage of the Principal with a more casual and mischievous tone. From September 3 to 13, Saga Producciones brings to Zaragoza a play that has triumphed on stages in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.

GIANT

Roald Dahl, the eccentric writer of international fame, has made controversial statements that inflame the press and his reputation has been terribly affected. This is the premise of «Gigante», based on real events, in which Josep María Pou plays the charismatic British writer. It arrives at the Principal from September 17 to 20 from London’s West End with three Oliver 2025 awards up its sleeve.

The story of the author of hits such as «Matilda», «Charlie and the Chocolate Factory» and «The Witches» underlines the dangers derived from following prejudices. In the play, which takes place in a single afternoon at the author’s house with other characters haunting the scenes, Dahl will be forced to choose between making a public apology or risking his fame.

THE MAGIC FLUTE

The Opera 2001 company is one of the great favorites of Teatro Principal, which offers shows of opera at reduced prices, without sacrificing artistic or musical quality. Fans of the renowned musical group will not have to wait much longer to enjoy their works: they will perform in Zaragoza from October 20 to 21. The international group arrives at the Zaragoza coliseum with Mozart’s «The Magic Flute», a work with which the company began its journey on the theatre scene and which they remember with special affection.

The public attending one of the two scheduled sessions will see a renewed version of the classic, cared for in detail and designed to be a finishing touch in the company’s history. The setting of the opera, with fantastic overtones, will cover different eras from archaic times with prehistoric monsters to the Middle Ages, through baroque art to contemporary art with Mozart, and to a distant imaginary future.

ARA MALIKIAN

The violinist Ara Malikian, a Lebanese of Armenian origin, is an Adopted Son of the city of Zaragoza due to his predilection for the Aragonese capital and his personal ties to it. Malikian addresses this melting pot of identities in his work «Intruder», marked in turn by how the different environments in which he has lived have welcomed him.

Each note resonates with the nostalgia of a non-existent home, a place where he never quite fit. However, his status as an outsider gave him the opportunity to explore and enjoy fascinating cultures and music, alien to his own tradition. By bringing her own voice and multicultural experience, she discovered that the entire world is her home. In these events, from October 23 to 25, the Principal will vibrate to the sound of the violinist, which reflects this feeling in the language that the artist prefers, music.

NERANTZI

Radio Futura was one of the mythical irruptions in the musical scene of the Movida Madrileña, by the hand of Santiago Auserón. Santiago, artistically restless, begins a new adventure that crosses borders and sonorities. After decades exploring genres, the artist from Zaragoza is now delving into the Greek music with the project «NERANTZI», the result of a collaboration with two outstanding Greek musicians: the master of bouzouki Vaggelis Tzeretas and the singer and guitarist Theodoros Karellas.

«NERANTZI» is not just an album, but a cultural bridge, a dialogue between Mediterranean languages that confirms Auserón’s cross-border vocation and his constant search for new musical essences. Those who want to listen to this musical proposal live already has a date: October 27.

THE COMEDY OF THE POT

A classic of the Greek theater as a comedy of entanglement is the theatrical bet of «La comedia de la Olla», starring Carlos Sobera. The audience will have the chance to see the television presenter in person, playing Euclion, a widower obsessed with his pot of gold. Like any comedy of entanglement, secrets and misunderstandings will be the order of the day on the boards of the Principal.

The characters, who unhinge each other for wanting different things, are played by a cast that dominates comedy and gives their best to make us laugh. They will take to the stage from October 30 to November 2, with a choral cast set in the middle of Greek society.

DULCINEA

The misadventures of the most famous knight-errant in history, Don Quixote of La Mancha, accompanied by Sancho Panza and Rocinante, are now universal. But, in addition, like any self-respecting knight-errant, Don Quixote has a lady to fight for in the face of death: Dulcinea del Toboso. La Alegría Producciones focuses on the female character of the classic in the play «Dulcinea», starring Paloma San Basilio, who gives life to the contemporary interpretation of the character of Cervantes.

From November 5 to 8, the multifaceted actress arrives at the Principal with a play that combines acting and music. The story reflects on the ideals, ethics and role of women in a world marked by disenchantment. To this end, the work has fragments of the original work, other texts from the Golden Age and fun original songs.

THE MAGNIFICENT

Flamenco arrives in Zaragoza thanks to the group Los Magníficos, a group of young artists who will unite the various elements of flamenco at the Teatro Principal. It will be an intense and magnetic journey, where energy and sensitivity will intertwine to offer a unique opportunity to experience the mastery of the artists.

Sandra Carrasco, one of the most important voices of the moment, will take us to the heart of the musical genre. David de Arahal, dazzles with his mastery of the guitar, while Chico Pérez transforms the piano into pure emotion. In dance, El Yiyo embodies the strength of flamenco dance. Thus, Los Magníficos will bring a flamenco dance cycle on November 16.

TITIZÉ, A DREAM IN VENICE

The work of the creator of several Cirque du Soleil shows lands in Zaragoza with «Titizé, un sueño en Venecia», a work with more than forty years of experience. The acrobatic work mixes humour, poetry and music: a visual, delicate and deeply human theatre that has beenvery well received on stages around the world. An acrobatic show suitable for all audiences that connects with spectators without the need for words.

The spectacular scenes are performed by a team of experts: actors, musicians and acrobats defy gravity with acrobatics that are committed to leaving the audience speechless. Body language and surprising stage machines transform the space to transport us to the Venice of a bygone era.

VI MAGIC FESTIVAL OF THE CITY OF ZARAGOZA

Six nights of international illusionism with Jandro, as headliner completed with international illusionists Lore Lavand, Read Chang and Lauren Pirón. The City of Zaragoza International Magic Festival returns to the Teatro Principal consolidated as one of the great scenic events of the city.

The sixth edition of the festival will bring together prominent national and international artists from December 3 to 8. In a family, elegant and surprising proposal, to experience the magic live in one of the most emblematic scenic spaces of the capital.

GOYA AND THE ETERNAL JOTA

The Academy of Folklore Arts and the Jota of Aragon pays a musical tribute from December 10 to 13 to the memory of the most universal artist in Aragon, Francisco de Goya. The show will cover the music of Falla, Giménez, Serrano, Iradier or Fernández Caballero, offering at the same time the international gaze of Puccini, Boccherini, Liszt or Granados, in a symphony of unparalleled emotions, inside and outside Spain.

THE COMEDIAN’S SON

«If the writer Delibes taught me to look, the comedian Fernán-Gómez, to listen». This is what one of the most representative actors of our recent cinema, José Sacristán, says. Both actors worked together and shared life stories. It’s been almost a decade since the playwright passed away, and Sacristán pays tribute to his life by doing what he does best: getting on stage.

In «El hijo de la cómico», Sacristán collects these stories of Fernán-Gómez and brings them to life, in a play written, directed and starred by himself. A work impregnated with the signature of the multifaceted actor from Madrid that brings the life story of his friend from December 16 to 20, and that will serve as the culmination of the annual program of the Principal.
