The Luis Buñuel Water Park is preparing to leave behind years of deterioration with an extensive renovation promoted by the Zaragoza City Council. The mayor, Natalia Chueca, announced during the Debate on the State of the City a plan to improve the main green lung of the Aragonese capital, which exceeds 120 hectares and accumulates almost two decades of wear and tear in many of its infrastructures.
The action will have an approximate budget of one million euros and will focus especially on the Antigua Hípica and the Multiadventure Park, two of the most punished areas of the enclosure. The new Z Forest will be created there, a naturalized space made up of 60 pink cherry trees and a large green meadow that aspires to become one of the most striking corners of the park during spring.
The project also includes the renovation of fountains, the waterproofing of the aqueduct, the recovery of pedestrian paths and the replacement of deteriorated urban furniture. These actions are in addition to the recovery of the Aguas Bravas Canal, whose infrastructure has already been rehabilitated although it has not yet been able to come into operation. A few months ago the City Council also tendered the drafting of the project to repair the wooden walkways of the canal, the subject of numerous complaints from neighbors due to their poor condition.
The transformation of the Parque del Agua comes while other spaces of the Expo continue to be blocked. The old river beaches are still closed and in an advanced state of degradation due to the judicialization of several concessions inherited from 2008, which prevents the Consistory from intervening for the time being.
