A driver of an articulated truck was arrested on June 29 as allegedly responsible for a accident in the municipality of Zaidín. The breathalyzer tests revealed that he exceeded the maximum allowed as a professional driver of 0.15 mg/litre, with an aspirated result of 1.16 mg/l. The accident took place at 8:00 p.m. on the A-1234 road in the direction of the town of Monzón.
The articulated truck left the road on the right side of the road, and the driver of the vehicle was unharmed. The infrastructure of the road, on the other hand, was damaged. The truck’s semi-trailer partially occupied the road until 11:30 p.m. on the same day that traffic could be restored in both directions of the road.
The health services, a patrol of the Traffic Detachment of the Civil Guard of Fraga and the EIS of the Traffic Subsector of the Civil Guard of Traffic of Huesca, which instructed the proceedings, were sent to the scene. The detainee was handed over to the Civil and Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance Plaza de Guardia de Fraga, and was detained at liberty with charges.
The agents, at the scene, carried out breathalyzer tests in exhaled air on the driver of the articulated vehicle, as he was involved in a road accident. After testing positive for breathalyzer, he was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety by driving a motor vehicle exceeding the statutory blood alcohol level.
The DGT recalls that driving after consuming alcohol is not only an offence and, in the most serious cases, a crime under the Penal Code, but also poses a risk to the lives of the driver and those who share the road. In the case of transport professionals, that responsibility is even greater, as they operate heavy-duty vehicles whose loss of control can have devastating consequences.
