The fire that broke out on Wednesday in the Cinco Villas has slowed its advance, after five days in which it has destroyed almost 16,000 hectares. A hard episode, one of the most virulent in recent years, for the residents of the region, many of them still evicted, and who have seen how their fields, their villages and even some their houses were reduced to ashes.
To try to alleviate this situation in some way, the Government of Aragon is already working on the processing of the necessary procedures for the affected municipalities to be declared a catastrophic area. This was announced this Sunday by the President of the Government, Jorge Azcón, who has travelled to Farasdués, where the Advanced Command Post is located, to follow the evolution of the fire.
The objective, he explained, is that «from day one we can start helping all those people who have suffered from conditions, as we have always done, and we want to do it as quickly as possible«. The procedures, he stressed, have begun during this weekend and will continue during the next week, and must be sent to the Central Executive for approval.
MORE THAN A THOUSAND RESIDENTS REMAIN EVACUATED
Despite the fact that the fire is evolving favorably, the more than a thousand evicted residents will remain outside their homes until it is safe to return. Azcón has indicated that the intention is that «they can return to their homes as soon as possible«, but that they have to do so «with the maximum security measures, and those are decisions that will be taken by the professionals of Civil Protection and the professionals of the Fire Extinction Directorate».
The towns of Orés, Asín, Luesia, Malpica de Arba and Uncastillo remain evacuated. During the night, the transfer of the people who remained housed in the Ejea de los Caballeros pavilion was completed without incident. The evacuees have been relocated to four accommodation points located in Ejea de los Caballeros, Sádaba, Tauste and Huesca, with the coordination of the Red Cross and social services.
The residents of the nursing homes who were evacuated remain rehoused and are in good condition. The Aragonese Institute of Social Services will reinforce the staff assigned to their care from tomorrow.
