There are businesses that are part of the history of Zaragoza, and Casa Agustín is one of them. This century-old tavern, with more than 120 years of experience, has seen generations of customers pass through and has been able to keep many of its traditions alive without giving up on continuing to innovate. Located at number 6 Jorge Jordana Street, its characteristic façade is a symbol in the neighborhood, as are its tapas and the friendly treatment it has always offered.
Founded in 1905, it took its first steps in the Old Town, although in 1939 it moved to its current location, in Delicias, the most populated neighborhood in the city. Today, on the other side of the bar, is María José, who continues the legacy of an establishment that has been able to adapt to the passage of time without losing its essence.

No matter how many years pass, there are traditions that remain intact. As María José acknowledges, «people try to go back to what they used to be«. That is why, every Thursday, Cervecería Casa Agustín continues to celebrate its popular Juepinchos, an event that conquers many Zaragoza residents with tapas for one euro.
The bar, full of classic tapas, generous and prepared by themselves, becomes the great attraction of the tavern every Thursday. «Yesterday, Thursday, was brutal and we are in summer,» says María José, reflecting the success of an initiative that, even in the months of less activity, fills the premises. In a single day, in his own words: «We sell more than 200 tapas», to which are added the portions of the menu.
The objective, he explains, goes beyond sales. «We do it to provide service. You help people to make it cheaper and they also help us, getting to know the bar and coming,» he says. Of course, he recommends not delaying too long: «They all run out very quickly.» Among the most popular are the Guardia Civil, the empanadillas or the eggs with prawns, although the variety of its bar offers options for all tastes.
AUGUST OPEN EVERY MORNING
Although for years Casa Agustín closed its doors in August, this summer will be different. «We will be open all month, although only in the mornings,» explains María José. A decision with which they seek to continue serving their regular customers and keep alive the atmosphere that has always characterized the establishment.
For María José, the true value of this tavern goes far beyond what is served at the bar. «They are places with soul, where you enter and meet people,» he says. That close relationship is, precisely, the essence of Casa Agustín. «We are from Campeche, we talk to people, we look them in the face, we smile and we make an effort,» she sums up, convinced that this way of understanding the hospitality industry is what has allowed the business to continue to be a benchmark after more than a century.
