Casademont Zaragoza already knows the first obstacles they will have to overcome in their return to the Euroleague Women’s Euroleague. The draw held this Wednesday has resulted in Carlos Cantero’s team sharing in the first round group A with Basket Landes (France), Athinaikos Qualco (Greece) and with the winner of the qualifying phase between Kibirkstis Vilnius (Lithuania), AZS Poznan (Poland) and Sorpon Basket (Hungary).
The red-and-white club faced the draw as one of the top seeds thanks to the extraordinary performance offered during the 2025-2026 campaign. A condition that allowed them to avoid several of the big favourites for the title in this first phase such as the reigning champions Fenerbahce, the current runners-up Galatasaray and the winner of the competition two editions ago, USK Prague.
Finally, chance has configured a demanding and complicated group, in which Casademont will have to measure themselves against opponents with experience and who are strengthening themselves very well for this next season. The main contender will be Basket Landes, an old acquaintance of the Aragonese team who already faced the French in the first round and in the Final Six of the last edition.
Along with the French team appears a threatening Athinaikos Qualco, who last year played in the Eurocup final and who for this next campaign is being reinforced with players of a level such as the former red-and-white Julie Vanloo. While the last opponent will come out of the qualifying phase where Kibirkstis Vilnius, AZS Poznan and Sorpon Basket will meet for a place in the top continental competition.
SECOND ROUND
In addition, if they manage to advance to the next round, Casademont will already know which group they would mix with. Being in group A, the Aragonese club, along with two other of its rivals in the first round, would face in the second phase the three best classified of group B which is made up of Galatasaray (Turkey), Familia Schio (Italy), Kangoeroes Basket (Belgium) and the winner of the preliminary phase between Zabiny Brno (Czech Republic), DTVK (Hungary) and Red Star (Serbia).
All this in a continental competition where the Aragonese will seek to give continuity to the historic season signed last year when they won the bronze medal in the Final Six played in the Aragonese capital. With the opponents already defined, Casademont knows the first step on the road to a new European challenge in which he will once again try to consolidate himself among the best clubs on the continent.
