[EN] The Government of Aragon doubles the funding of the Santa María de Albarracín Foundation: from 150,000 to 300,000 euros

The Santa María de Albarracín Foundation has been restoring pieces of Aragonese heritage for thirty years, a task that the Government of Aragon wants to promote by doubling its funding

The Board of Trustees of the Santa María de Albarracín will receive greater funding from the Regional Executive: from 150,000 to 300,000 euros. At the last meeting of the Foundation, held on June 4 and chaired by Jorge Azcón, the Government recognized the trajectory of the entity that, for thirty years, has developed a work of conservation and restoration of historical heritage.

The Vice-President of Aragon, Mar Vaquero, has visited the Albarracín Restoration Centre, where the Foundation’s restoration actions are carried out. Vaquero underlined the willingness of the Government to strengthen collaboration between institutions. «We want the extraordinary talent, conservation work and recovery of the identity and essence of Aragon through our heritage to reach all corners of the community,» he said.

In this sense, the vice-president stressed that preserving it also means preserving the identity of Aragon and showing respect for those who built it and trust in those who will inherit it. He also added that «it is not enough to keep it; we must also investigate it, disseminate it and value it so that all society knows it, understands it and feels proud of it».

Some of the works currently being carried out by the Foundation’s restoration team include: the recovery of the medieval codex of Teruel and the restoration of the Gothic panels of the castle of Galve; as well as the interventions on a Christ from Molina de Aragón and an altarpiece from Peralejos de las Truchas, both municipalities in the province of Guadalajara.

THREE DECADES OF HISTORY

The balance of these thirty years reflects the magnitude of that work. The Foundation has promoted 40 interventions on the heritage of Albarracín, has trained more than 2,000 restorers and has recovered nearly 1,750 heritage assets. In addition, it has turned the town into a permanent focus of cultural activity, a regular venue for congresses, courses, concerts, exhibitions, creative stays and other reference events.

Every year it organizes around a hundred activities that bring together about 7,000 participants and consolidate Albarracín as a living space where heritage and culture are authentic engines of development. The Santa María de Albarracín Foundation has established itself as a national and international benchmark in the conservation, recovery and dissemination of historical heritage.
