[EN] The Iron Bridge will change forever: it will have benches, vegetation and will be repainted

The intervention responds to the deterioration of the layers of paint on the bridge, inaugurated in 1895

Crossing the Iron Bridge will no longer be the only reason to step on it. The Zaragoza City Council wants to transform this historic infrastructure on the Ebro River into a space to walk, rest and contemplate the environment, thanks to an action that will include the repainting of the structure, the installation of benches and the incorporation of vegetation.

The project has been one of the announcements made by the mayor, Natalia Chueca, during the first day of the Debate on the state of the City. For now, it has already commissioned its drafting with the aim of recovering the splendour of one of the main symbols of Zaragoza’s industrial heritage.

The intervention responds to the deterioration of the layers of paint on the bridge, inaugurated in 1895, and aims to go beyond a simple maintenance action to revalue this space on the Ebro.

THE BRIDGE WILL NO LONGER BE JUST A PLACE OF PASSAGE

The City Council proposes a comprehensive transformation that will combine the conservation of the bridge with an improvement in its use by citizens. In addition to the complete repainting of the structure, benches and plant elements will be installed to create a more pleasant environment and turn the bridge into a place for meeting and walking.

With this action, the aim is to recover the image of one of the most emblematic infrastructures in Zaragoza and to highlight its historical and heritage importance more than 130 years after its construction.
