The Maestrazgo is already looking to the sky for the total solar eclipse scheduled for August 12, 2026. In Cantavieja, the Tarayuela viewpoint has been transformed into a space for astronomical observation. This action expands the offer of astronomical tourism in the region and takes advantage of one of its great attractions: the quality of its night skies.
The project is part of the region’s strategy to promote tourism linked to sky observation and has had an investment of almost 38,000 euros, financed through the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination.
THE ECLIPSE, AN OPPORTUNITY TO ATTRACT VISITORS
The solar eclipse of August 2026 will lead many astronomy enthusiasts to look for places with good conditions to observe this phenomenon. The Maestrazgo has an advantage for two reasons: it is within the strip from which the total eclipse can be seen and it has a sky with very little light pollution.
In this context, the region has reinforced its commitment to astronomical tourism with the transformation of the Tarayuela viewpoint, which from now on offers a space more prepared to contemplate the sky throughout the year.
The main novelty is a large concrete hammock that allows you to observe the sky more comfortably. A circular table has also been installed with the constellations visible in each season of the year to help identify the main formations of the sky. In addition, improvements have been made to the accessibility and safety of the environment to facilitate night visits.
UN MIRADOR CON VISTAS AL MAESTRAZGO
The Tarayuela viewpoint is located at an altitude of 1,664 metres, next to the road between Cantavieja and Mosqueruela, about 5.5 kilometres from the municipality.
Until now it was a place known for its views over the landscape of the Maestrazgo. From this point you can see the platforms and millstones of Cantavieja, as well as an environment with numerous farmhouses and large open spaces. Now, to this attraction is added the possibility of observing the sky in especially favorable conditions.
