The metal sector of Aragon has boasted of its good state of health. Its Federation has predicted that 7,000 jobs will be created in the next three years, due to the potential of Aragonese companies and the investments announced for the community.
This was shared by the president of the Federation of Metal Companies of Zaragoza (FEMZ), Benito Tesier, at the presentation of the 2025 balance sheet of this sector. He stressed that this activity represents 18.82% of employment, 48.2% of exports and 27.39% of Aragonese GDP.
In addition, this key piece of the Aragonese economy will continue to grow. Tesier gave several examples of several projects: the Stellantis and CATL battery gigafactory in Figueruelas, the expansion of Leapmotor in Aragon with new production lines and a battery workshop, and new auxiliary industry.
For this reason, Tesier has predicted the creation of 7,000 jobs in the next three years in this sector: «I have been conservative». He believes that with adequate training and technification plans, «a second professional life will be opened to those who at the time, due to certain circumstances, had to leave their jobs».
However, these good forecasts may be truncated by several difficulties. Aragon must have the capacity to attract talent for these new jobs, which are going to encounter a problem that all citizens face: housing. The president, who is also CEOE Aragón, shared that he is aware that the DGA «is working on a specific development» to offer a home to new workers.
Absenteeism from work is also in their sights. Tesier explained that in this sector the problem is greater: «Our workforce is trained specifically for these technological industrial factories. When we lack trained workers, they are not easily replaced immediately.»
Another challenge is to improve the communication axes. In this regard, the president of the FEMZ has claimed the Cantabrian-Mediterranean Corridor. He also called on the Spanish Electricity Network for greater electricity capacity for Aragon: «We have a very high demand and what we do not want at any time is for it to harm our companies».
Benito Tesier has defended that the sector is in «a privileged moment» and facing «an exciting opportunity», especially compared to other regions. «It is going to be a challenge that will force us to play and will require us to rise to the occasion, but I am convinced that we will be able to overcome the difficulties,» he said.
