The forest fire in Peñarroya de Tastavins has dropped to zero, as indicated by the Minister of the Interior, Finance, and Public Administration, Roberto Bermúdez de Castro, after the Cecopi meeting this morning.
In this sense, De Castro stressed that the reduction of the emergency level «does not mean a withdrawal of the means of extinguishing, but on the contrary, it will continue there until the fire is finally extinguished». The work carried out during the last night has evolved favorably, although the authorities remain cautious, «all possible outbreaks or possible hot spots that appear within the interior perimeter will be looked at,» said the head of the Interior.
For this reason, it will still not be allowed to access the properties located within the perimeter of the fire or return to the Buddhist center, included in the restricted zone. «The most important thing is to preserve people’s lives and we have decided that until it is really finished within the perimeter, it will not be possible to continue entering,» De Castro detailed.
The inhabitants of the farmhouses and the users of the hotel establishments that are outside the perimeter will be able to return. The minister insisted that the priority «continues to be to guarantee the safety of people».
In addition, De Castro has also reported that the Civil Guard also continues to be deployed at the points considered most dangerous, especially in some sections of the A-1414 road, «where there are narrowings and the fire trucks continue to carry out water loading work».
THANKS TO THE FIREFIGHTING TEAMS
The regional leader thanked the work carried out since the beginning of the fire by the land and air brigades of the Government of Aragon, the Military Emergency Unit, the Ministry for Ecological Transition, firefighters, farmers and volunteers. He also recognized the collaboration of the mayors, councilors, regional presidents and other public officials who have participated in the management of the emergency from day one.
The minister warned that the summer is being especially complicated due to the high temperatures and the high risk of forest fires. For this reason, he has asked the population that «we have something to preserve and take care of, which is our environment, our forests, our forest masses, which when they burn take many years to return and that, therefore, it is everyone’s job to try to preserve them with the work of prevention and in their care», he concluded.
