The total solar eclipse on August 12 is approaching and the search for approved glasses that allow you to contemplate it safely has already begun. Using adequate protection will be essential to enjoy this astronomical phenomenon without endangering eye health.
Although the eclipse will be visible from much of Spain, Aragon will be among the privileged areas to observe it more clearly. Given the growing interest, some supermarket chains, such as Aldi, have already begun to market approved glasses to follow the event safely.
ECLIPSE GLASSES FOR LESS THAN 2 EUROS
Aldi has launched its own glasses forthe observation of the eclipse, special glasses for solar observation approved for the modest price of 1.49 euros. They will be available in all supermarkets in Spain from today, Wednesday, July 15, while stocks last.
ALDI glasses comply with the international standard ISO 12312-2:2015. Its black polymer filter is scratch-resistant, completely covers the entire eyes and effectively blocks infrared and ultraviolet (UV) radiation, ensuring clean and safe observation. In fact, the product is mandatory for visual health from the partial start of the eclipse at 7:30 p.m. until sunset.
RECORD THE SOLAR ECLIPSE
In addition, if you want to record the eclipse you should know that you also have to protect your mobile phone camera. Direct sun can also damage the camera’s sensors permanently, just as it damages our eyes. To avoid this, the cardboard frame of these glasses is designed to be converted into a homemade protective filter for the mobile phone in three steps:
- A clean cut: Make a cut with scissors through the central bridge of the glasses.
- Separate: Split the two eyepieces, obtaining two individual filters (ideal for sharing with other devices).
- Position: Place one of them directly over the rear camera module of the phone, making sure that it covers the lens to be used for zooming
