The State Public Library in Zaragoza has launched the fifth edition of the contest ‘Design a bookmark for the library’, an initiative aimed at both professional and amateur artists in which the winners will be able to take a gift voucher of 100 euros. On this occasion, the contest revolves around the slogan ‘The library has a face. Draw it!’, which aims to pay tribute to the people who make the daily operation of this cultural space possible.
The contest is open to all people who have amembership card of the Network of Public Libraries of Aragón. Two categories have been established: a children’s category, for children up to 14 years of age, and another for adults, from that age. The works can be submitted until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026.
THE DESIGN MUST BE ORIGINAL AND WITHOUT ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
The theme of this edition is dedicated to the people who make the library possible. The design must be original and unpublished, that is, it must not have been published in any medium or medium or have previously received any prize or second prize in another competition or contest before this call.
The bookmark must have dimensions of 21 x 5.25 centimeters, inhorizontal format. It can be done in black and white or in color, with free technique. The organization will not allow the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the creation of the designs.
Registration is free. Those who opt for an analogue technique, such as pencils, paints or collage, must carry out the work on the physical template that can be collected in the library or downloaded and printed from the http://www.bibliotecaspublicas.es/bpz website.
This template includes the space for design and another to fill in personal data: name and surname of the author, title of the work, telephone, email and library membership number.
Those who prepare the design digitally, using design or image processing programs, must use the downloadable document available on the library’s website. This file has the appropriate size and resolution for the subsequent printing of the bookmark, in JPG format at real size and 300 dpi.
A 100-EURO VOUCHER FOR EACH WINNING CATEGORY
Each participant may submit a single design. The works can be delivered in person at the State Public Library in Zaragoza, without folding and with all the contact details completed. They can also be sent by email to the address bpzaragoza@aragon.es, using the online design template and including the name and surname of the author, the title of the work, the telephone number, the email and the library membership number.
Proposals can be submitted until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026. The jury will be made up of three members of the General Directorate of Culture of the Government of Aragon and an expert in design and illustration. None of its members may participate as a contestant.
Before evaluating the works, the jury will set the criteria that will serve as the basis for its decision. Originality, creativity, composition, quality of design and suitability to the proposed theme will have special weight. The prize may be void if it considers that the works do not reach the necessary quality.
A prize will be awarded for each category. The winning design of each of them will become the image of a bookmark of the State Public Library in Zaragoza and its author will receive a voucher of 100 euros for the Cálamo bookstore in Zaragoza. In addition, the jury will select several works from among all those submitted and may organize an exhibition, both face-to-face and virtual.
