Joaquín Delgado arrives at Real Zaragoza with the goal as his main letter of introduction. The new white striker has just closed a season in which he scored 14 goals in 17 games with Real Oviedo Vetusta in the Second RFEF and another six since January with Barça Atlètic in records that, as he has transferred in his presentation as a new white player, he now intends to transfer to the Aragonese capital: «I have to try to do what I’ve been doing these last few years.»
The 24-year-old attacker from Utrera, explained that one of the keys to opting for Real Zaragoza was the project presented to him by Lalo Arantegui. «The moment Lalo contacted us, he proposed the project that Zaragoza had. Everyone knows how historic the Zaragoza club is and knows where Zaragoza can go,» he said. In addition, the striker stressed that from the first moment it was clear to him that he wanted to arrive as an owner and not through a loan in an idea in which both he and Lalo and Ibai Gómez agreed.
Precisely, the new striker already had a first contact with the Zaragoza coach through a video call before closing his arrival. Ibai explained to him «how his team was going to play, what he wanted from a striker» and also what he could contribute to the new project. Now, Delgado is willing to adapt to the coach’s needs: «I can adapt to what Ibai asks. Whether shooting into space, staying in the box, holding centre-backs… Whatever he asks.»
NO SPECIFIC GOAL FIGURE
Despite the good numbers he has signed in recent years, Delgado does not want to set a specific number of goals as an individual goal. «It is true that individually you have to set figures, you have to set objectives,» he acknowledged, although he is clear about what the best possible record would be: «If I am satisfied that it is enough for Zaragoza to do it.»
In addition, Delgado arrives with the confidence that a particularly positive last campaign left him. «It was such a beautiful year,» he acknowledged, before recalling the opportunity «to be able to go and play for Barcelona». However, the striker does not want to live off what he has achieved and is committed to continuing to grow: «I have to work and keep working and keep doing what I’m doing.
