[EN] Jaca calls for reflection after the fire: «The future is only built from unity»

In the statement, the City Council also dedicates a few words of remembrance to Corporal Javier García Sancho.

The City Council assures that it will work on the recovery of the mountain and support those who have suffered damage.

The City Council of Jaca has made public this Friday a statement in which it calls for unity, reflection and recovery of the territory after the fire of Las Peñas de Riglos, which has affected a large area between this area and the protected environment of San Juan de la Peña and Monte Oroel.

The Jaqués Consistory wanted to thank the work carried out during the emergency by the firefighting teams, volunteers, farmers and ranchers, as well as by the troops deployed from other autonomous communities and from France. He also highlighted the coordination between the Government of Aragon, the regions and the city councils, despite being governed by different political formations.

In the statement, the City Council also dedicates a few words of remembrance to Corporal Javier García Sancho, a member of the Military Emergency Unit who died during the work related to the fire. «Jaca and its towns will never forget his name or his example,» says the text, which praises his dedication and his work to protect citizens.

The City Council also stresses the importance of protecting both the natural landscape and extensive livestock, which it considers fundamental for the environmental and economic balance of the area. In this context, he also focuses on the historical heritage of San Juan de la Peña and the Camino de Santiago, elements that he considers essential for the identity of the territory.

The City Council also stresses the importance of protecting both the natural landscape and extensive livestock farming.

After the emergency, the Consistory considers that the time has come to analyze what happened and draw conclusions that will allow similar situations to be avoided in the future. To this end, it asks to do so «with respect» and without turning the fire into a reason for confrontation between groups, platforms or associations. The City Council assures that it will continue to work on the recovery of the affected areas, on supporting those who have suffered damage and on the reinforcement of the protection of the natural environment.
