Every day an average of 23 babies are born in Aragon; so far this year, the Community has welcomed more than 4,200 babies. There are more than 700 a month, three quarters of them born in the capital, figures that allow us to take the pulse of the birth rate of the Community and check what place it occupies compared to the rest of Spain.

The latest data from the Monthly Birth Estimate of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) count 4,261 births in Aragon between January and June 2026. With this figure, the Community is in 11th place in Spain by number of births, in a year in which nearly 157,000 babies have already been born throughout the country.

ZARAGOZA ACCOUNTS FOR 73% OF BIRTHS IN ARAGON

The distribution of these births between the three Aragonese provinces leaves important differences. Zaragoza registers 3,110 babies born between January and June, so it concentrates approximately 73% of all births in Aragon during the first half of the year.

Quite a distance behind is Huesca, with 713 births, around 16.7% of the regional total, while Teruel has 438, just over 10%. Zaragoza thus has more births than Huesca and Teruel combined and multiplies by more than seven the figure for the province of Teruel.

The difference also remains in the last available month. During June, 534 babies were born in Zaragoza, 121 in Huesca and 74 in Teruel, reaching 729 births registered that month in the whole of Aragon.

MORE THAN 700 BABIES ARE BORN EVERY MONTH IN ARAGON

The 4,261 births registered up to June represent an average of approximately 710 babies per month, or in other words, about 23 new births every day in Aragon. The beginning of the year left the highest monthly figure so far. In January, 771 babies were born, while in February there were 672; in March, 716; in April, 664; in May, 709; and in June, 729.

April thus marked the minimum of the first half of the year, but the following two months show a rebound. The evolution thus shows some stability during the first half of the year. After hitting the annual low in April, the number of births grew again in May and June.
