Kankarro conquers the audience of SoNna Huesca with circus, music and acrobatics in Calasanz

The Basque company Kankarro has conquered the audience of the SoNna Huesca with a proposal of contemporary circus in the hermitage of La Ganza de Calasanz. Not even unfavourable weather forecasts have slowed down attendance and the show has managed to fill the capacity on a day marked by dance, music and acrobatics. The festival closes its eighth weekend of the summer this Sunday with the concert of Gerardo López Trio in La Gabarda park in Alberuela de Tubo.

The artists have presented themselves to the public with several baskets of apples that they have been distributing around the space, anticipating one of the central elements of the proposal. Unai Gorri and Joana Millet, the two acrobats of the company, have led a production that plays precisely with the culture of the apple as a common thread. The threat of rain has accompanied the previous moments, although finally the sky has given a truce and has allowed the performance to be held normally.

Through dance and stage play, the four members of Kankarro have been building a txalaparta, a Basque percussion instrument that has acquired a leading role during the first part of the performance. The work mixes acrobatics, movement and music, with sounds of traditional instruments such as the txistu or the alboka and with the vocal games of Corine Cella, capable of imitating the singing of birds or launching the characteristic Basque cry.

The show has been growing little by little until the protagonism is left in the hands of the acrobats. The trapeze has then been transformed into a large apple tree and the action has risen above the stage. The text has been left in the background and the **Basque, without translation,** has not prevented us from following a proposal built mainly through images, sounds and movement.

The performance has once again put on stage a formula already present in the previous day’s event in Castejón de Sos, where the company La Trapecionista had performed. Both shows are co-produced by the European EKO Pyrenees circus programme, managed by the Pyrenees Working Community.

Kankarro has thus left another example of circus dance in which the rope, suspension and gravity are part of the artistic language. The artists themselves have also highlighted the sensations that the performance has left them. «This gig has been incredible,» Joana Millet summed up after an appointment that had begun under the threat of rain and ended with the audience enjoying the show in the open air.

GERARDO LÓPEZ TRIO CLOSES THE WEEKEND

After the two contemporary circus events in Castejón de Sos and Calasanz, the SoNna Huesca program returns this Sunday to Los Monegros. La Gabarda Park, in Alberuela de Tubo, will be the setting for the concert by Gerardo López Trío, one of the Aragonese jazz projects present in this edition.

The group is made up of trumpet or flugelhorn, electric bass and drums and bases its instrumental repertoire on versions and interpretations of jazz classics. Its three members have extensive experience and have participated in different musical projects at the national level.

At the head of the group is Gerardo López from Huesca, trained in classical music and trumpet in Huesca and later in Barcelona, where he expanded his knowledge of jazz and modern music at the ESMUC. There he has received training from musicians such as Matthew Simon, Gary Willis, Pep Cucurella or Xavi Ibáñez. He has also been part of the Municipal Band of Huesca for twelve years and has directed the Huesca Big Band.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be the 199th performance held by SoNna Huesca since its birth in 2020. Next week, the festival will reach 200 concerts with the performance of the Castilian-Leonese El Nido at the Finca Valonga in Belver de Cinca.
