Adults with intellectual disabilities will be able to approach the world of horses and learn tasks related to their care at the Military Center for Horse Breeding of Zaragoza. The Ministry of Defence and the José Luis Zazurca Foundation have signed an agreement to launch this training programme at the military facilities in the Aragonese capital, which was published this Tuesday in the Official State Gazette.
The initiative is aimed at a maximum of ten participants, who will come to the center one day a week between the months of September and June, except during Christmas and Easter. Each session will last two and a half hours, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
During these days, the participants will carry out activities related to the care of the horses, such as cleaning and animal care tasks. To facilitate the development of the programme, Defence will make up to three horses available to the Foundation, in addition to the necessary facilities and military personnel with knowledge of equine handling.
The José Luis Zazurca Foundation will be in charge, for its part, of providing the specialized professionals who will accompany the participants and develop the sessions. It will also assume adapted transport, additional personnel that may be necessary and the corresponding accident and civil liability insurance.
The programme seeks to promote the personal and social development of adults with intellectual disabilities through practical training linked to the equestrian environment. The agreement will have an initial duration of four years and may be extended for another two years if both parties agree.
