The Shenghe company will invest 25 million euros and create a hundred jobs with the start-up of a circular economy plant in Pedrola. The project, which will be developed through its subsidiary Veranova Technology, will be installed on a plot of up to 20,000 square metres in the El Pradillo industrial estate and will begin work in the coming months with the aim of being operational in 2028.
The future plant will be dedicated to the recycling of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), a key solvent for battery manufacturing. Through a recovery and purification process, the company intends to reintroduce this industrial waste into the production process and thus close the cycle of the material so that it can be used again in battery factories.
MORE THAN 100,000 TONS PROCESSED
The facility will have the capacity to treat up to 100,000 tonnes of NMP per year and seeks to promote the development of the ecosystem linked to the battery sector in Aragon. The system will combine gas recovery, high purity distillation, greater than 99.92%, and industrial reuse. According to the project, it will reduce emissions, resource consumption and operating costs.
In addition, the technology will decrease reliance on virgin raw materials and improve energy efficiency, with heat recovery of more than 80%, while reducing operating costs.
This approach will make it possible to transform waste into a strategic resource and is aligned with European sustainability policies, with the aim of positioning Aragon as a benchmark in clean technologies linked to the battery sector.
MORE THAN 40 AREX EFFORTS FOR THE ARRIVAL OF THE PROJECT
The purchase of the land comes after more than 40 steps carried out between May 2025 and April 2026 by Aragón Exterior (Arex), in coordination with the company itself. The contacts have been carried out with different actors, including Invest in Spain, several municipalities in the area, engineering companies and consulting firms.
Arex has provided comprehensive support in different areas, with institutional intermediation that has been key and continuous accompaniment during the phases of recruitment, landing and execution of the project.
Shenghe Energy Technology Co. was founded in 2009 and has become a benchmark in the solvent recycling industry and in the research of new materials linked to sustainability. The company currently has twelve subsidiaries in countries such as Hungary, Spain, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Hong Kong, among others.
In addition, Shenghe has three production sites in China and another in Indonesia, which has already come into operation this year. They will be joined by the future Pedrola centre, which will become an important part of its global expansion.
