The municipal group of the PSOE has denounced this Tuesday the «delays» that accumulate the works of the Plaza San Miguel that began at the end of October last year. As recalled by the socialist spokeswoman, Lola Ranera, who went to know the status of the works this Tuesday, the reform had an initial duration of six months. «In October we will talk about a one-year delay of an absolutely unfulfilled promise,» said Ranera, who indicated that the conditions are causing the «closure» of shops.
In this line, he has assured that the Government of Chueca has carried out the works «without any planning», as well as has not informed the neighbors of the reason for the delay. «We are talking about an inability of the Government and an arrogance that does not count on the neighbors, who are the real pagans of the works of the city,» he said.
The PSOE has pointed out that the works in this central environment cause mobility problems with bus lines diverted for months. «What is going to happen in September when we all return to normal life when we have to take the buses? When the kids have to go to high school and university? When citizens begin to normalize their working lives?» asked Ranera. The PSOE proposed bonuses for urban bus passengers affected by these works.
«We find the city absolutely up. And only with one objective, the mayor is using the city to be able to cut ribbons for next year’s elections,» criticized the PSOE leader in Zaragoza.
THE CITY COUNCIL ASSURES THAT THE REFORM IS PROGRESSING «IN A CONTROLLED MANNER»
In the face of these words of the PSOE, the municipal government has accused the socialist group of trying to generate «a climate of artificial concern«. «The temporary adjustments in the area of the Plaza de San Miguel are the usual ones in any intervention in the Historic Center of Zaragoza, derived directly from the legal and moral obligation to care for and study our archaeological heritage,» they said.
The City Council has insisted that «turning an exercise of technical and historical responsibility into a failure of management is an exercise in political myopia that does not correspond to reality».
In this sense, they have assured that the reform of the surroundings of San Miguel and the Coso is progressing «in a controlled manner». At the moment, they are focused on overcoming «the challenges of public works, ignoring sterile noise to ensure that citizens have a renewed, greener, more accessible and high-quality urban space very soon«.
