The great growth that Aragón has had in recent times is exposed in the national metrics where it is seen that retail trade is stepping on the accelerator in the Aragonese community. Sales in the sector grew by 4.6% in July compared to the same month in 2025, according to provisional data published this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The Community is thus the Spanish region where retail trade turnover increased the most, in real terms during the last year.
ARAGON LEADS THE GROWTH OF RETAIL TRADE IN SPAIN
The Aragonese figure contrasts clearly with the evolution of the whole of Spain. At the national level, retail sales fell by 0.2% year-on-year, while in Aragon they increased by 4.6%. Only four autonomous communities registered decreases and another 13 ended July in positive.
Likewise, Aragon leads the national ranking ahead of the Region of Murcia, where sales increased by 3.1%; Castilla-La Mancha, with 2.3%; and Extremadura and Melilla, both with a growth of 2.2%. At the opposite end of the scale were Catalonia, with a fall of 3.6%; the Valencian Community, with a decrease of 2.8%; and the Balearic Islands, with a decline of 2.4%.
SALES LOSE MOMENTUM IN SPAIN AS A WHOLE
The national evolution shows, however, a loss of momentum during July. The General Retail Trade Index at constant prices and adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects fell by 0.3% year-on-year, nine tenths less than the rate recorded in June. Compared to the previous month, sales decreased by 0.9% between June and July.
By sector, e-commerce was the mode of distribution that fell the most during the last month, with a decrease of 2.5%. Service stations registered a decrease of 4.4%, while food sales decreased by 0.7%. The INE prepares these indices from a sample of approximately 12,000 companies throughout the national territory.
