Buying a home without resorting to the bank is within the reach of few pockets. For this reason, mortgages continue to be the main gateway to a home for many families. In Aragón, the number of mortgages on homes increased by 3.3% in June compared to the same month last year, according to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Aragonese growth, however, was much more moderate than that recorded in the set of España. At the national level, 45,907 mortgages were signed on homes, 10.8% more than in June 2025.

In addition, those who buy a home need to ask for more and more money. The average mortgage in Spain stood at 178,365 euros, 6% more than a year ago. In total, financial institutions lent €8,188 million for the purchase of homes, up 17.5%.

INTEREST IS AROUND 3%

The average interest rate on new mortgages was 2.96%, while the average term to repay the loan was 25 years. Most buyers continue to bet on fixed-rate mortgages, those in which the interest does not change during the life of the loan. They accounted for 61.7% of the total, compared to 38.3% for variable-rate mortgages. Specifically, the average initial interest rate was 2.89% on fixed mortgages and 3.07% on variable mortgages.

ARAGON ADVANCES AT A SLOWER PACE

Although more mortgages were signed in Aragon than a year ago, the 3.3% increase was far from the 10.8% recorded in the country as a whole.

The largest increases occurred in the Canary Islands, with 31.4%; Castilla-La Mancha, with 23.2%; and the Valencian Community, with 16.1%. On the other hand, mortgages fell in the Balearic Islands, Cantabria and Galicia.

The data reflect, in short, that financing to buy a home continues to grow, also in Aragon, although in a more contained way. The figures published by the INE are provisional and come from mortgages registered in the property registries.
